Today in human geography class discussed the future! Great topic huh? May might be scared of the future and many excited. I am both. I'm nervous that maybe my dreams might not come true but, excited for what we have ahead and the difference we can make on the world. I mean think of the technology we have to come. I mentioned in class today that f anyone of us can think it, what is stopping us from doing it? We see crazy things in movies these day and it makes us think oh that could never happen. Well all it takes is a spark in the mind and what maybe 10 or 20 years later it might just be a thing. You'd also be amazed how fast we catch on with everything around us. It seems crazy to maybe have a chip in our head someday that acts as a phone, but we would get used to it, and would learn to love it. Loved this discussion!
Today in human geography class, we discussed more on population pyramids and how the different countries vary based on their population and pass events. we also looked at how these pyramids are always changing. Events that effected these pyramids might be wars, diseases and many other causes. The teacher also mentioned that the different ways of life compared to now and then, have changed extremely as well. For example, there are now more women today in the world then men who are enrolled in college. Back then it was a joke to say women were going to school or be a doctor. We were expected to stay home and watch the kids and tend to the house. If our jobs failed our next best was a secretary or phone operator. Great class!
Today in human geography class we went over our tests that we recently took. I am proud to say that I no longer have an F in this class. I received an 85 on this test and feel very good with my work. I'm really not the F type so you can imagine that this grade sitting here for a week or two really made me a freak. After this, we talked more on the kiva.org project. Unfortunately I have not been able to make a donation yet, but will finish that tonight. I checked over the weekend to double check the people I had considered lending to, and found that both had either made their goal, or had run out of time. So tonight I will do a little more research and find another person to help out. I think this is a really great website to help those in need. It seems to be very effective. I hope you continue to make this an assignment for the rest of your teaching years!
Research Kiva.org . Describe your findings, such as their goals, methods, efficiency, and reputation. Research potential borrowers. Find at least two borrowers and describe their business, their reasons for wanting a microloan, their past history, etc. Look at the big picture. Check out the city and country they live in, and describe what effect their location has on their need to borrow. Write your findings in an essay and post it to your blog. This should be a well-written, informative, and possibly inspirational essay that shows how much you have learned about developing nations, poverty throughout the world, and ways of dealing with this difficult situation. Kiva.org is a site that is used by about a million people who lend money to those in need. When you go onto the cite, you will find different profiles on some one or a group of people and a biography of why they want the money you might be willing to lend to them. This cite seems to work very efficiently as y
Today in human geography class, we took a test. Yay for test. Will it hopefully bring my still an F in this class? I think so! I don't think I did terrible on it so it can't make it go down even lower. I thought I would end up hating the timed portion of the test, but found it pretty easy and probably saved my grade. I also liked how you emailed us a study guide for the test. It helped me a ton! I suggest we do this for more to come so everyone will pass this class. Okay well since this is all we did today in class I'm gonna stop talking now. I'm ready for western civilization though now.
Today in human geography class, we shared the rest of the projects that hadn't been shared. I learned that we have a test on Monday about population pyramids. This class isn't making much sense to me lately and I don't know how to study for it because we haven't taken good notes in this class. I have continued to have an F in this class and can't get it up even though we have done three grade assignments since. This makes this my least favorite class right now, though I thought it would be my favorite. So no, my school life hs not improved in the past few days.
Today in human geography class, we finished up the rest of the projects that hadn't been shared. I really don't know what to write in this blog, considering that is the only thing we've done in this class in for the past two days is share projects. So let's talk about Christmas. Christmas is by far, every child's favorite holiday. Hey my name is Holiday. That's neat. Anyway, it seems strange that it is next month. I feel like from October-January is the part of the year that goes by so fast. Since this is my favorite part of the year, it makes me upset. So of course my least favorite part of the year (February-May) takes forever. But we can't forget about Thanksgiving. I WILL be playing Christmas music in the car on the way home from our thanksgiving dinner.
Today in human geography class we shared our projects on population pyramids. I hope this assignment will help bring my grade up and make me feel better, because I need good news on school. Since there is nothing else to discuss, I'm going to talk about my life. So right now my school life feels like it is all going to down hill. I'm an A and B student and I keep starting out each quarter with bad grades that cause me to stress. I eventually get them up and then I'm satisfied but, then it just starts all over again. I took my first trip to New York on Sunday and had so much fun. Before I went there, I new I already wanted to live there when I was older. Now that I have officially been there, it makes waiting seem like a lot to have to do. It's funny that when I tell people I want to live in NYC when I'm older, they say I seem like someone who would live there. I take that as a compliment. So my life right now seems a mess, but it's looking good for the future.
Today in human geography class, we were very relieved to learn that Mr. Schick was willing to give s another try on our quiz that everyone failed the day before. Though he thought it would be an easy quiz for us, he would soon find out that everyone would most likely be failing his class afterward. I guess taking a retake helped some people, but can we just conclude that pop quizes ar enot the way to go? That sure would solve my problem in this class. After we retook the quiz we got in groups for a grade on population pyramids. Yes more grading. At least this time we might be able to pass it. I'm also not good at timed testing. So I guess taking a timed test was good for practice. This is how class went today.
Today was sadly a not so good class. We started off with a fire drill. The alarm made my ears hurt and it was cold outside so that wasn't much fun. Even better was that when we came back in Mr. Schick did another one of his pop quiz surprises that I got 2 out of 10 correct. My grade is already low in this class because I didn't submit a blog the day I was out for the play saying I was out. Because of this, I now have a C in this class (which is so unlike me) and will drop even more from this pop quiz. It doesn't make sense but oh well I'll survive I guess. I mean it's only a few days into the second quarter and my grades are already falling apart. I even told myself that my goal for this marking period was to get my grades together and make honors. First quarter my GPA was 3.987. I guess not enough. So here's hoping for this quarter. My prayers go to my grades.
Today in human geography class, we looked at examples of different populations and how their pyramids varied based on their age, and why they perhaps might live there. The three types of population pyramids are box, cup, and Christmas tree. Here are some examples... 1. You will find that there are many old people who live in Florida, because it is a great place to retire. 2. You can see that Kansas contains more men because it is home to a very big jail. The U.S. is good at sending people to jail. As you can see, there are different places around that world that have different populations based on what might go on in that area, or how the weather is. This is what I learned in class today, and I found it very interesting.
This is for the post I missed on Thursday when I was out for the play:)
Today in Human geography class, we discussed more on the topic of immigration and population. We looked at 3 different types of population pyramids. There is the tree, box, and cup. The U.S. is seen as the box because the number of people alive during childhood and elders is about the same. An example of the cup would be Japan. Japan is also known for kids dying younger and elders dving longer. Besides this, we discussed part of of Mr. Schick's life before he somehow became a teacher. I know I've probably said this before in an earlier post, but the job you had, is really what i what to do when I am older. It amazes me how you got to do that! That is why I asked you how you got into that job, and you make it seem easy, but I look at famous people and they talk about how hard it was for them to get where they are today, and that they made it. I want to be famous someday and sometimes question whether or not I have it in me and doubt. So I kinda look up to you in that way:) Great
