Today in human geography class, we discussed more on population pyramids and how the different countries vary based on their population and pass events. we also looked at how these pyramids are always changing. Events that effected these pyramids might be wars, diseases and many other causes. The teacher also mentioned that the different ways of life compared to now and then, have changed extremely as well. For example, there are now more women today in the world then men who are enrolled in college. Back then it was a joke to say women were going to school or be a doctor. We were expected to stay home and watch the kids and tend to the house. If our jobs failed our next best was a secretary or phone operator. Great class!
Today's class was one of the most interesting ones we've had so far. Today's discussion focused mainly around what thinking globally and acting locally means. What do they mean? An example used in class today was farming. If everyone starting farming for their fruits and vegetables, it would affect grocery stores. Now of course the stores wouldn't go out of business, the fruits and vegetables rate being sold would increase. So in other words, something we did locally would effect globally. But besides this discussion we talked about our thoughts on voting. How more older people tend to vote more nowadays. This brought up the discussion of weather or not the age for kids to be able to start voting should be lowered to age 16. In my opinion, I think at this age we are too young and immature to be asked and vote for political affairs, because honestly everyone would just think the same as their parents.
