Today in my human geography class, we went over notes on site and situation. These two terms are used to describe different areas around the world. Site is where a location is based of of the natural resources that grow there. Mr. Schick gave us the example of when he drove up to Oregon and all it is is straight corn fields the whole way across. Oregon is so flat and the temperature is just right, making it great for growing crops. Situation is where buildings may be built and added to the area not just because of the resources there. An example of this was New York. New York was just built upon the land. Because New York is such a popular place to live (especially Manhattan where all the sky scrapers are) owning land there costs millions of dollars. My dream is to live in New York someday and do something involving movies or fashion. That'd be awesome! I wouldn't be starting a company there because I most likely won't be able to spare a million bucks but working for any company in new York is a pretty big deal. I also hope that with my grades, I will be able to attend a college there, though they are very hard to get into based on their "situation"... ha ha ha.
In human geography class today, we finished dividing our regions by the various similarities they shared. My group also noticed a mistake we had been making and fixed it. That was that we weren't exactly dividing the regions to their correct category. For example, when we compared the different maps of presidential votes, we mistakenly put a few states together that weren't always 100% together. Some might have gone democratic one year while the others might have gone republic. I also hadn't picked up that we could divide them up based on weather/temperature. This caught my eye on a few states that were out of place as well. This changes things! This is what also divides us into different cultures. Culture is what makes up a specific region or group of people based on customary beliefs, material traits, and social forms. With the knowledge of the different regions and why they are in that region, it can help us to define what kinds of people may live there. This is what I g...
