OK let me just say that what we learned in class today blew my mind. I'm actually still a little confused. First of all, why are we using maps that aren't even accurate? Second, why are there different maps anyway? We should all have the same maps. How did this even happen though? I liked the West World clip we watched today. It gave me and I think everyone a better understanding of what was going on. Especially when it showed examples of how different the sizing and looks of the countries looked. It shocks me that people didn't notice this earlier, and those who did obviously havent spoke up because classrooms all around the world are using the wrong map. When I saw the right one (after Mr. Shick pointed it out) I saw the difference. To conclude, I think this is a problem that needs ti be fixed as soon as possible, or else we will all still be learning the wrong material.
Today's class was one of the most interesting ones we've had so far. Today's discussion focused mainly around what thinking globally and acting locally means. What do they mean? An example used in class today was farming. If everyone starting farming for their fruits and vegetables, it would affect grocery stores. Now of course the stores wouldn't go out of business, the fruits and vegetables rate being sold would increase. So in other words, something we did locally would effect globally. But besides this discussion we talked about our thoughts on voting. How more older people tend to vote more nowadays. This brought up the discussion of weather or not the age for kids to be able to start voting should be lowered to age 16. In my opinion, I think at this age we are too young and immature to be asked and vote for political affairs, because honestly everyone would just think the same as their parents.
